SMART / MART, Canadian labels & sources

SMART / MART: scheduled ICS–formoterol plus the same inhaler for symptom relief. AIR-only has no maintenance dose. Other ICS/LABA combinations are not interchangeable relievers; Zenhale SMART appears behind an off-label acknowledgment at Steps 3–5 for age ≥12, with limited direct evidence and no automatic dose mapping.

GINA choices do not establish Canadian approval. Card sliders show selected label-dose examples, not every licensed regimen or dose equivalents. An unavailable or ambiguous dose-band mapping stays unlinked. Confirm strength, device, age and the action plan. For children using as-needed ICS–formoterol alone, step-up is to MART; the daily-ICS Step 2 route is not an automatic next step from AIR. Step 3 has three options; Step 4 warrants expert consideration. Selected secondary GINA options are outside this core navigator.

For Symbicort AIR/MART, this Canadian-label reference uses a maximum of 8 total inhalations/day and 6 on one occasion. GINA permits up to 12/day for age ≥12 in its action-plan guidance; that differs from the linked Canadian label. Agree on an explicit action plan and seek review for increasing or ineffective relief.
